Dermatologist Cautions Women Using Retinol Products About Waxing

Women using skincare products containing Retinol should be cautious when it comes to waxing. Retinol, “a common ingredient in both over the counter and prescription anti-aging and acne topical creams,” has the effect of making “skin cells less likely to stick together.” Then, because the skin cells don’t stick together as tightly as they normally would when you wax, that force of pulling the wax off the skin, it rips the skin off deeper than it should. Women should discontinue topical Retinol products for about five days before waxing. Women taking the acne medication isotretinoin should not wax at all.
